Holiday Drink: Mulled Wine

It’s the holidays! What could be better than baking, and cooking? Making an amazing cocktail for your family and friends at the next holiday party. It’s tasty and has great color to it so it will surely add to your decor. Mulled wine originated in the 2nd century. (yes the number 2) So it has been around a pretty long time. It was always a winter time drink. In it’s early uses it would help keep the people warm and hopefully fight any colds. While heating up the wine they would add fruit, herbs, and flowers to alter the taste of the wine.
Over the next several decades mulled wine became a global phenomenon with many unique combinations. People used red to white wine, sangria blends, and vermouth. To this day mulled wine is still a Christmas tradition.

Here’s a basic recipe for making mulled wine. You won’t be disappointed!

2 bottles of red wine
2 shots of port
Oranges cut down to 5 pieces
Cloves(enough to cover the oranges
1 teaspoon of cinnamon
1 teaspoon of nutmeg
2-5 tablespoons of brown sugar.

Heat all ingredients in a pan for 20 minutes but do not bring to a boil. Once hot strain and serve.
