Brunch Idea? Keep your kids busy? Dessert for a party? This pull apart sweet bread, or monkey bread is a perfect addition to your go-to recipes. It’s sweet with sugar and cinnamon. If you can add some nuts like pecans to the mix. Pull apart bread can be made in various pans but a bunt pan I think is the best for presentation. I know some recipes also call for icing on top but this alone I know will be sweet enough.
1 cup milk
⅓ cup sugar
¼ cup butter
1 teaspoon salt
3 ½ cups flour
1 packet of yeast
Ingredients you will roll the dough balls into:
½ cup butter (approx.—melt more if needed)
1 cup chopped glazed pecans (you can sub with any nuts, but glazed pecans make it extra delicious)
1 ½ cups sugar
2 teaspoons cinnamon
In a small pot, heat milk until it’s hot, but not boiling. Turn off the flame and add the sugar, butter and salt. Stir until butter melts then cool.
Place flour in a large bowl. Add egg, yeast, and milk mixture. Knead until it forms a smooth dough.
Cover and let rise until double. Then punch down and let rise again, and recover.
Preheat oven to 350°
Spray a bunt pan with oil.
Melt butter in microwave or stove top. Combine chopped nuts, sugar and cinnamon in a small bowl. Pull off small pieces of dough about 1 inch rounds and roll into balls. Dip each ball in melted butter, then in nut mixture. Place balls in tube pan around in a circle for two layers. Cover and let rise again.
Bake for 35 minutes. Remove from oven and turn over onto a large plate. Let stand for five minutes and then remove bunt pan.
